Dave Train; President, CEO, Senior Member of Technical Staff

Dave Train is a leader in technical education and training. He is a strong advocate for corporate continuing education, helping companies understand a critical issue: In a world where a company's survival depends on its adaptability, training and education for key employees is crucial to differentiate the company from the competition. Increasingly, employees need in-depth knowledge of technology and its application to real-world customer business problems. As a result, companies must institute a comprehensive employee training program. A pioneer in the realm of blended curricula, Dave has been an innovator in designing custom strategies for companies that address a variety of technical training needs, most often by combining classroom-based and technology-based delivery methods. A seasoned presenter with an extensive depth and breadth of knowledge in both technology trends and learning issues, he is adept at customizing both content and delivery for technical, as well as non-technical, audiences.

He holds a B.Sc., M.Sc., and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Manchester in England. He has had a distinguished career at Hill Associates that began in a consultant position in 1983. Since then he has served as Chief Technical Officer and Senior Member of Technical Staff. He is now President and CEO. Prior to his tenure with Hill Associates, Dave was President of Manchester Software Associates, while employed as Assistant Professor of Computer Science at the University of Vermont. He is coauthor of the book Metropolitan Area Networks (McGraw-Hill) and the technical editor for Telecommunications: A Beginner's Guide (McGraw-Hill/Osborne).

Matt Kolon; Chief Technical Officer, Senior Member of Technical Staff

Matt Kolon has over 20 years of experience in the computing and networking industries. He began his career in New York City as an engineer and instructor on client/server systems, then in 1995 moved to Vermont to join Hill Associates as a member of technical staff. After 4 years with Hill he joined Juniper Networks as a professional services engineer, and was shortly tasked with founding Juniper’s education services department. After that, and a stint in technical marketing, in 2005 Juniper asked him to relocate to Hong Kong to help develop their mobile network sales engineering team. The following year he became Juniper’s VP of technical operations for Asia-Pacific, followed by a move to Beijing to concentrate on China and other large Asian service provider markets as the VP of SP Sales.

After 12 years at Juniper, Matt moved across the aisle to Cisco, where he was CTO for Asian SPs and also ran the NTT account. A siren call from Brocade Communications came from some former colleagues, and he joined them at Brocade 2014, to serve as their APAC CTO and help transform the company from dominant SAN vendor to a next-gen networking player.

With the graduation of their 2nd child from High School a few years later, Matt and his wife decided to return to the US. After a short stint as a VAR CTO, he was happy to re-join his old friends at Hill Associates and resume what he’s always felt was his life’s work - passionately communicating the excitement of advanced networking technology to those in the industry, and helping them develop their own authentic ways of influencing their customers, partners, and colleagues.
